Will These Anti-EACOP Protestors Ever Learn That Oil is a Blessing and Not a Curse?

2024 has been a frustrating year for Anti-EACOP protestors!

Students Against EACOP Uganda have repeatedly marched to the Chinese Embassy in Kololo with a petition for the ambassador and at the end of August 2024 they also attempted to march to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to present their petition to the Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa but police have always foiled their attempts by arresting them.

These misguided climate change activists have been thwarted by strong information-sharing of the actual facts on the ground in the Albertine Graben, such as environment restoration projects being carried out, by the different stakeholders. Except for a few isolated cases, almost all the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) have been compensated and are currently benefiting from the livelihood restoration programs. It’s all systems go, for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline. So, instead of marching, we strongly suggest these students concentrate on their books!
